AUTOMEC was originally established in 1975, exporting vehicles and components to customers all over the world, including the Maltese government, Ford, Ciba Geigy and Hungarocamion.
Copper brake pipe sets were in everyday use by LandRover, Morris and other vehicle manufacturers back in the early 1940's. After the war these pipes quickly disappeared due to the scarcity and cost of copper. Then in 1976 we 'rediscovered' them during a visit to one of our customers in Denmark. Today, our range of ready-made sets is the most comprehensive on the international market. We cater for such diverse vehicles as the Jaguar XK120, Lancia Appia, Messerschmitt FMR TG500 and the Pontiac Trans-Am; and all current TVR and Caterham Cars are fitted with Automec pipes as standard.
By 1980, the product range had been expanded to include copper coils and copper-nickel piping in a wide choice of lengths and diameters; plus a complete range of ready-made pipes, brass unions, pipe connectors and pipe clips to suit vehicles from around the globe. Brass bleed screws and SpeedfitTM pipe connectors were soon included, making Automec a unique one-stop-shop for auto pipes and fittings.
Discussions with a major car club resulted in the addition of silicone brake fluid in 1982. Coach operators in northern Finland, the Australian Air Force and an oil company in Canada have all discovered the benefits of using this product, and sales continue to climb steadily as its popularity increases with motorists in the UK.
ABA hose clips were also added in 1982, as a key element in the pipe and pipe-fitting programme. Automec supplies VW/Audi in the UK, whose dealers have been using these clips since they were first introduced.
At Automec and Oakes Tools we look forward to providing you with pipe and pipe fitting solutions well into the next millennium.
